In 2018, Bahrain's Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning initiated a project for the two-year operation and maintenance (O&M) of the North Sitra Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), situated in the Sitra Industrial Area. Raw wastewater and sewage are treated at the STP to remove biological nutrients and is then disinfected before being supplied for agriculture or discharge into the sea.
